Danube River Cruise: From Munich to Budapest

The Yes Getaways Danube River Cruise package includes round-trip flights, 2 nights in a Munich hotel (1 on arrival, 1 after disembarkation), a train from Munich to Passau on boarding day with hotel to station transfer included, 7 nights on board an A-ROSA river cruise ship, all meals and drinks on the cruise (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages throughout), a welcome cocktail, a gala dinner, evening entertainment, free Wi-Fi on board, all port fees, a train from Passau back to Munich after disembarkation with station to hotel transfer included, and all taxes and fees related to the booking. 

All meals are included on board throughout the 7-night cruise: breakfast buffet, lunch, and dinner every day, selected drinks including wine, beer, and soft drinks. 

A train from Munich to Passau is included on boarding day, with a transfer from your Munich hotel to the train station included. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. On disembarkation day, a train from Passau back to Munich is also included, with a transfer from Passau station to your Munich hotel. The train station in Passau is close to the cruise harbor. The Yes Getaways team will confirm all timings and logistics before your departure.

The cruise departs from and returns to Passau, Germany. The route covers 7 cities across 3 countries in the following order. Day 1: arrive in Munich (Germany). Day 2: train to Passau to board the cruise. The ship sails through the Wachau Valley, stopping at Melk and Dürnstein (Austria), then continuing to Vienna (Austria). From Vienna the cruise sails to Esztergom and Budapest (Hungary), passing Bratislava (Slovakia) before returning to Passau to disembark. After disembarkation, you take the train back to Munich for one final night before flying home.

The package operates on one of four A-ROSA river cruise ships: A-ROSA BELLA, A-ROSA DONNA, A-ROSA MIA, or A-ROSA RIVA. All four ships sail the same Danube Classics 2026 route and carry up to 159 passengers in 78 cabins and one suite, all with panoramic windows. The specific ship assigned to your departure is confirmed at booking and depends on the travel date selected.

Breakfast is not included by default at the Munich hotel on either night. Breakfast can be added during the booking process.

Yes, round-trip flights are included. The package price varies depending on your departure airport. Other departure cities are available on request. Contact the Yes Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type. You can confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process. Seat selection and cabin class upgrades can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.

No. City taxes are not included and are paid directly at the Munich hotel on arrival or checkout.

The Danube Classics cruise operates in 2026 with departures available through the season. Spring (April to May) offers mild temperatures around 14°C to 18°C (57°F to 64°F), the Wachau Valley in bloom, and fewer tourists at the main sights. Summer (June to August) is warm at around 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F), the busiest period with the longest days and the most vibrant atmosphere in Vienna and Budapest. Autumn (September to October) stays pleasant at around 14°C to 20°C (57°F to 68°F), harvest season in the Wachau wine region, quieter crowds, and dramatic light along the river.

US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for Germany, Austria, or Hungary, all Schengen Area countries. Stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period are permitted without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS, a pre-travel authorization for Schengen Area travel, is not yet mandatory. When it launches, it will apply to this itinerary. We will contact you in advance. Entry requirements are the traveler's responsibility and can change.

All three countries are stable, well-visited destinations with no active conflicts affecting travelers. Standard precautions apply in busy tourist areas and city centers. US passport holders do not currently need a visa for any of the three countries. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date.

A deposit option is available for this package. This package is non-refundable once booked, including both the airfare and the land portion. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended for a multi-country itinerary of this length, particularly given the non-refundable nature of the booking.
