- Relax in the lush surroundings of Buen Retiro Park, shop up a storm on Gran Vía, or treat yourself to some coffee and churros con chocolate in the Puerta del Sol.
- Day 2Drive to Valencia
Suggestions for the day: From Cuenca's Cliffside Charm to Valencia's Futuristic Fantasies
- Drive to Cuenca (2 hours drive from Madrid) and witness honey-colored clifftop hanging houses, before your journey continues to Valencia (another 2 hours), renowned for its modern verve and spirit of innovation. Explore the City of Arts and Sciences, a large-scale urban recreation center for culture and science designed by Santiago Calatrava. This evening, consider indulging in Valencia’s fragrant flavors and aromas of paella.
- Day 3Drive to Granada
Suggestions for the day: Unearth the Secrets of Granada's Moorish Heritage
- Get ready for an exciting journey through the Sierra Nevadas! First, optional stop: Guadix. Here, if you decide, you can witness the incredible craftsmanship of locals who have carved cozy homes into the rocky terrain. Don't miss the chance to explore the troglodyte cave dwellings seamlessly blending into the landscape. Then, drive through the rugged Mora Pass en route to Granada, the final stronghold of Moorish influence in Europe.
- Day 4Drive to Seville
Suggestions for the day: From Alhambra's Splendor to Seville's Soul
- Follow in the footsteps of Spain's last emirs and visit the incredible Alhambra. There, you'll encounter amazing palaces, gardens, and fountains, with architecture said to reflect paradise as described in Islamic verse. If you choose, immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere of quiet courtyards, follow colossal ancient walls, and admire ornate stone carvings. Departing Granada, head for Córdoba (2h30 drive from Granada), where you can visit the mesmerizing Mosque of the Caliphs. This former mosque of the caliphs is a jewel of Hispano-Islamic art, boasting striking arches and Byzantine mosaics. Your final stop for the day is alluring Seville (1h30 drive from Córdoba), home for the next two nights.

Suggestions for the day: Seville's Symphony of Sights and Sounds
- Today, Seville takes center stage, offering plenty of experiences for you to choose from. We suggest you start with a visit to the symbolic Giralda Bell Tower, and stroll through the Maria Luisa Park, home of the 1929 Exposition. This Moorish-style park boasts half a mile of fountains, ponds, pavilions, and lush plantings. You can also opt to walk through the imposing Plaza de España and visit the Seville Cathedral (the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world), where explorer Christopher Columbus is entombed. As the day winds down, consider booking a fiery flamenco performance of twirling colorful skirts and rhythmic clapping of castanets.
- Day 6Drive to Évora

- Leaving the zesty scents of Seville and Spain, behind, head to the golden landscapes of the Alentejo region in Portugal, and enjoy the scenic drive. You can stop on the way connect with locals, and try some local specialties on your way to Évora (a 3.5 hours drive from Seville). Once you arrive, explore Évora's Cathedral, the Roman Temple, and the incredible Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos). Treat yourself to a delicious Portuguese dinner and spend the night in Évora.
- Day 7Drive to Lisbon
Suggestions for the day: Lisbon's Labyrinth of Culture and Cuisine
- Leave Évora behind and drive to Lisbon (1h30 drive), where you'll be greeted by the seafaring charm of the Portuguese capital. Embark on a sightseeing walk around the city. Go to Terreiro do Paço, the largest square in Lisbon. You can dive into culture at the UNESCO-listed Jerónimos Monastery. This remarkable site showcases the splendor of 16th-century Manueline architecture and art, providing a captivating glimpse into Portugal's cultural legacy. To end your day in the best way possible, you can participate in a traditional Fado experience, a heartfelt traditional Portuguese music.
- Day 8Lisbon
Suggestions for the day: Lisbon's Luminous Legacy and Vibrant Vistas
- Take the day to explore more of this wonderful city! Relax at a sidewalk café with creamy pastéis de nata, and climb to the Castle of São Jorge. It is the highest point in the city, set amongst the most typical neighborhoods. Wander through time in the narrow streets of Alfama, ride the iconic Tram 28E, or delight your senses in the lively bars and restaurants of Bairro Alto.
- Day 9Drive to Porto
Suggestions for the day: Porto's Riverside Romance and Cultural Charms
- Drive to Porto (3h drive). There, marvel at Ribeira’s district view of the old houses appearing to be on top of each other, the D. Luis I cast iron bridge, and colorful Rabelo boats that made this area recognized as world heritage by UNESCO. You can join one of the fantastic Douro River Cruises.
- Wine tasting at the Port Wine Cellars is another must while visiting Porto. You can explore the Bolhão Market and Santa Catarina Shopping Street or even get a book from “The Most Beautiful Bookshop in the World” - Lello’s Bookshop. Spend the night in Porto.
- Pro tip: On your way to Porto, consider leaving Lisbon early and take some time to explore other incredible places in Portugal like Sintra, Cascais, Nazaré, or Aveiro along the way - (our personal favorite is Sintra - the fairytale village)!
- Day 10Drive to Salamanca
Suggestions for the day: Salamanca's Golden Grandeur and Academic Aura
- Leave Portugal, and travel to the historic Spanish city of Salamanca (3h45 min drive) with its golden-hued façades and ancient university heritage, where your first stop should be for a coffee in Plaza Mayor. Explore Salamanca's Cathedral and count the shells on Casa de las Conchas. While exploring the city, make sure you also take a walk around the university campus.
- Day 11Drive to Toledo
Suggestions for the day: Toledo's Timeless Treasures and Walled Wonders
- Head to Toledo (2h40 drive from Salamanca). On the way, you can stop in the walled city of Ávila, the city of Saint Teresa of Ávila. After arriving in Toledo, you can visit the church of Santo Tomé, home to one of El Greco's most famous paintings – 'The Burial of the Count of Orgaz' and the former Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca. It is also interesting to witness local craftsmen at work creating inlaid steel the traditional way. Stay the night in Toledo.
- Day 12Drive to Madrid
Suggestions for the day: Madrid's Majestic Monuments and Cultural Cornucopia
- Drive to Madrid (1h drive from Toledo). You can visit the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, and Retiro Park, created as a retreat for the royal family. Admire the world's finest collection of Spanish art at the Prado Museum, and indulge in some last-minute shopping on Gran Vía. This evening marks the end of your memorable journey through the Iberian Peninsula. Enjoy the last dinner here.
